Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player. Roger Federer was born on August, 8, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland and now lives in Bottmingen, a town in its native country. Because he has great professional records, many people forget Roger Federer is a regular man leading a regular life. He is the son of Swiss Robert Federer and South-African Lynette Durant. Thanks to this, Roger Federer has double citizenship – both Swiss and South-African. He grew up in a small town named Munchenstein, near the French and German borders. This is how Roger Federer learned to speak Swiss German, German, French and also English. He was raised by his parents in the Roman Catholic religion and also had the chance to meet Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, when he had a tournament in Rome, Italy.
Because he is a Swiss citizen, he should have made the compulsory military service which involves all men in the country, but due to health problems with his back he did not fulfill it. Roger Federer was a tennis prodigy since early childhood, but, in opposite to other professional tennis players, he also focused on other sports. Roger Federer is a fan of badminton and basketball. He declared for the press that any sport involving a ball attracted him as a child and this was very important in the development of hand-eye coordination as he grew up.
As to his family life, Roger Federer is married to another tennis pro. Roger Federer met Mirka Vavrinec in 2000, in Sidney. They were both competing at the Olympics for the Swiss team. In 2002, Mirka Vavrinec suffered a foot injury and was forced to retire from competitions and professional tennis. Since then, she is his public relations manager. Nine years after they first met, Roger Federer and Vavrinec tied the knot in a very private ceremony. Their wedding took place in Basel, on April 11, 2009. Together with family and a small group of friends, they celebrated the happy event at Wenkenhof Villa. A few months later, Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinc became parents when she gave birth to twin girls, named Myla Rose and Charlene Riva.
