Since I was a child, I enjoyed watching tennis. My favourite tennis player was Boris Becker. After he retired, another talented sportsman has come to my attention and instantly became my number one tennis player. Roger Federer is not only a very skilled tennis player, but also a very down to earth person. Federer has appeared in an unprecedented 23 career Grand Slam tournament finals, including a men’s record ten in a row, and appeared in 18 of 19 finals from the 2005 Wimbledon Champioships through the 2010 Australian Open. He holds the record of reaching the semifinals or better of 23 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments over five and a half years.

I would say the titles he has won speak for themselves and there is no reason not to root for him at any tennis match. He was proclaimed the greatest player of all time by Tennis Magazine on September 2009. Aside from his tennis life, he supports a number of charities, establishing the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003 to help disadvantaged people and to promote sports. In 2005, he auctioned his racquet from his US Open Championship to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. He was appointed a Goodwill ambassador by UNICEF in 2006. He has also appeared in UNICEF public messages to raise public awareness of AIDS.

In 2004, Roger Federer met a worthy opponent, Rafael Nadal. The rivalry between the two of them played a significant part of both men’s careers. They held the top two rankings on the ATP Tour from July 2005 until 14 September 2009, when Nadal fell to World No . They are the only pair of men to have ever finished consecutive calendar years at the top. Another great opponent of Federer was Novac Djokovic. The two have met 24 times. Djokovic is the only player besides Nadal to have defeated Federer more than once in a Grand Slam tournament since 2004 and the only player besides Nadal who has a double figure career wins over Federer.

Federer is an all court, all round player known for his speed, fluid style of play and exceptional shot making. He plays mainly from the baseline but is also comfortable at the net, being one of the best volleyers in the game today. He has a powerful accurate smash and very effectively performs rare elements in today’s tennis, such as backhand smash, half volley and jump smash.

Throughout his career, Roger Federer managed to become one of the most renowned and appreciated faces in the international sports world. It seems that magic is hidden somewhere in his body, and when he enters the tennis course, the magic is released and gives birth to unique and unmistakable moves and kicks. Putting aside the physical features of this amazing player and his great shape, a fascinating thing about Roger Federer is his state of mind. Few people know this, but in his early days as a tennis player, Roger Federer was a racket ruiner. As himself admitted, he was a true “hot head” during the first part of his career.

Disappointed with the attitude of the player, whose “hot head” moments were becoming more and more regular, his parents decided to punish him in a curious way: they just decided to stop talking to him until he would change his attitude. This only made Roger Federer angrier, so the rage moments amplified. However, Roger Federer was always mad at himself, and not at his opponents or at the judges. The person who managed to change Roger Federer from this point of view is Australian Peter Carter. He managed to change the behavior of the young Roger Federer and to help him choose the right path towards the greatest performance. As Roger Federer later confessed, he only truly understood Peter Carter’s messages after he was gone.

While having Peter Carter as a coach, Roger Federer radically changed as a man, but also as a tennis player. Besides the anger slaps disappearing, Roger Federer also managed to understand, assimilate and acquire the most important mental factor of all: accepting defeat. After the epic Wimbledon defeat in 2008, when Roger Federer lost the final to Rafael Nadal, he seemed and actually was devastated. One year later, a BBC reporter asked Roger Federer how long did it take for him to move past that defeat. His answer was truly surprising: “about 2 hours”. He admitted that the awards ceremony was a very tough moment for him, as well as the way back home to London. And then, just like that, Roger Federer moved on and left that game in the past.

Few words can describe the amazing tennis player Roger Federer. He is one of the greatest players of all time, renowned worldwide both for his tennis skills and for his compassionate spirit. While some people may have thought that the career of Roger Federer is going downwards, he proved everyone wrong on March 18, 2012, when he won his fourth Indian Wells title. In the Indian Wells semifinal, Roger Federer crushed his longtime rival Rafael Nadal, 6-3, 6-4. He then defeated surprise finalist John Isner, 7-6, 6-3. This victory marked his 73rd career title, which is surely impressive.

Prior to 2012, Roger Federer had won the Indian Wells title for 3 consecutive times, in 2004, 2005, and 2006. The 2012 Indian Wells final went on for 1’21”. With an unseen calm and tranquility, Roger Federer converted the first of two break points and took the lead. In the next set, he broke Isner and won the well deserved Indian Wells title. In the semifinal, Roger Federer won to famous Rafael Nadal, the former therefore equaling the latter’s record of 19 Masters 1000-titles. Roger Federer currently lies 4 victories behind John McEnroe. After winning at Indian Wells, Roger Federer raised his arms skywards, as the capacity crowd was cheering and frenetically applauding at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Roger Federer later stated that it was a very tough tournament, but that he is surely happy to have won it.

He also said that during the final, he was only thinking about victory, so he was very motivated. As he has not lifted the Indian Well trophy in a while, Roger Federer stated that he got a great feeling when proving to himself that he can still very well play on this kind of surface. Roger Federer added that he is very proud with his achievement, for which he earned 1000 points in the ATP chart and $1 million. After winning his fourth Indian Wells title, Roger Federer qualified March 25, 2012, for the third Miami round, where the second ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year is being held.

Roger Federer is a Swiss professional tennis player. Roger Federer was born on August, 8, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland and now lives in Bottmingen, a town in its native country. Because he has great professional records, many people forget Roger Federer is a regular man leading a regular life. He is the son of Swiss Robert Federer and South-African Lynette Durant. Thanks to this, Roger Federer has double citizenship – both Swiss and South-African. He grew up in a small town named Munchenstein, near the French and German borders. This is how Roger Federer learned to speak Swiss German, German, French and also English. He was raised by his parents in the Roman Catholic religion and also had the chance to meet Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, when he had a tournament in Rome, Italy.

Because he is a Swiss citizen, he should have made the compulsory military service which involves all men in the country, but due to health problems with his back he did not fulfill it. Roger Federer was a tennis prodigy since early childhood, but, in opposite to other professional tennis players, he also focused on other sports. Roger Federer is a fan of badminton and basketball. He declared for the press that any sport involving a ball attracted him as a child and this was very important in the development of hand-eye coordination as he grew up.

As to his family life, Roger Federer is married to another tennis pro. Roger Federer met Mirka Vavrinec in 2000, in Sidney. They were both competing at the Olympics for the Swiss team. In 2002, Mirka Vavrinec suffered a foot injury and was forced to retire from competitions and professional tennis. Since then, she is his public relations manager. Nine years after they first met, Roger Federer and Vavrinec tied the knot in a very private ceremony. Their wedding took place in Basel, on April 11, 2009. Together with family and a small group of friends, they celebrated the happy event at Wenkenhof Villa. A few months later, Roger Federer and Mirka Vavrinc became parents when she gave birth to twin girls, named Myla Rose and Charlene Riva.
