Roger Federer is a Swiss tennis player, born on August 8, 1981. His unbelievable talent made him a tennis legend, and even if you are not a fan of sports, it is impossible that you have not heard of Roger Federer. He was born in Binningen, a city near Basel, in Switzerland. His father, Robert Federer, is Swiss, and his mother, Lynette, is South-African, so Roger has both Swiss and South-African citizenship. His parents were both amateur tennis players and they used to play at a local tennis club, in Basel. As a child, Roger Federer always showed an interest in sport, so his parents always took Roger with them. Little did they knew that their son’s destiny was to become one of the greatest tennis players of all times.

Although primary he wanted a career in soccer, Roger Federer changed his mind and decided to go for tennis. This turned out to be the best decision in his life. It took years of practice and hard-work, but Roger Federer was ambitious and persevering, so it came as no surprise when in 1998, at the early age of 17, he won both the Wimbledon boys’ singles tournament and the doubles one, together with Olivier Rochus. This was only the beginning of Roger Federer’s career in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals). Since then, his career took an amazing breakthrough, and Roger Federer soon dominated the tennis world. Everyone was talking about him and he was constantly surprising with his victories.

Throughout his career, Roger Federer has set many records, so the next generation will have a hard time topping his results. He held the ATP number one position for 237 consecutive weeks, and for 285 weeks overall. This was a performance never seen before. Roger Federer participated in a record number of 23 Grand Slam finals, and he has won 16 of them. He also won five ATP World Tour Finals and 17 ATP Master Series tournaments and he won the Olympic gold medal in 2008, at Beijing. Roger Federer was named the greatest sportsman of the year several times, which shows that he is not only a tennis legend, but one of the greatest sports personalities ever.

Roger Federer is extremely beloved by people everywhere. He has fans all over the world and there is not a single person who does not admire him. His personal life was never on the spotlight, though, and he was never involved in scandals. In 2009, he married Mirka Vavrinec and they have two twin girls. Roger Federer has always been interested in philanthropy and he organized many charitable events. It comes as no surprise, thus, that he was ranked the second most trusted and respected human in the world, after Nelson Mandela. A tennis legend, Roger Federer is one of the most impressive persons that have ever existed on this planet, not only due to his accomplishments in tennis, but also due to his kind-hearted spirit, modesty and charm.
